Care costs can now be claimed up to an amount of 20,000 euros against the tax
The care costs can now be claimed up to an amount of 20,000 euros against the tax, the Federal Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday. But what does that mean exactly: Up to 20 percent of the nursing costs can now be deducted from the income tax liability. Care and support is now part of the "household-related services". This includes, for example, costs for household help or cleaning work that is taken over by service providers. The tax advantage applies up to an amount of 20,000 euros per year. This means that a maximum of 4000 euros can be deducted.
In addition, according to the new regulations, patients in need of care are exempted from the obligation to provide evidence. A corresponding level of care no longer has to be presented. The Federal Ministry of Health has therefore issued new regulations so that people also use external care providers who are not assigned to any care level. However, the financial aid paid out by the long-term care insurance funds is not counted towards the tax benefit. This also applies if relatives receive the money for care. Long-term care insurance benefits that are earmarked for certain expenses continue to be deducted from deductible expenses. (02/18/2010)
